This week’s Cornish Times leads on the news so many had been waiting for – Cornwall can start to welcome visitors from July 4, and hospitality businesses can now set about beginning a summer season that will be like no other before it. But Cornwall Council wants a careful and measured approach: they say a second spike in the virus would cost livelihoods as well as lives. Meanwhile in the week following an outbreak of 11 coronavirus cases at a care home in Liskeard, we hear from one Cornwall Councillor who says that public health officials in the county have only just had access to the full data on Covid-19 cases and which areas they’re in – and the public still isn’t getting this information.

Inside this week’s edition, an 80-strong campaign group has been formed on the Rame Peninsula. They’re angry about plans by the parish council chairman to build a new four bedroom house close to Rame Head.

East Cornwall’s new Neighbourhood Policing Team Leader Sgt Ian Chambers gives the Cornish Times an exclusive insight into starting the job just a couple of weeks before the lockdown – and describes what he feels is at the heart of successful community policing.

Your Cornish Times this week is proud to carry an extra Open for Business supplement, with eight packed pages of local information, expert advice and useful tips for customers and traders alike. We’re featuring many of the local companies and retailers who are opening their doors to welcome customers, celebrating company successes and wishing some brand new businesses well too!

There’s an update on the refurbishment at Saltash Railway Station, and a mouthwatering feature on two new drinks being brewed and blended in the Tamar Valley to celebrate 25 years of the AONB.

In our Sport section this week, Liskeard Football Club is shining bright, literally, as the season resumes, with their fabulous new floodlights at Lux Park. We’ve got Dave Potham’s review of the season for Millbrook and Saltash Borough FCs, and a focus on Callington Town Ladies and one of their players to watch, 17-year-old Katlyn Bentley. On the back page look out for some new faces at Torpoint FC – manager Dean Cardew tells editor Nigel Walrond how delighted he is to have made the signings and gives the low down on each of the new players.

We’ve got all this plus your weekly favourite Nature Watch with Ray Roberts, loads of varied reader letters, the Puzzle page, and more.
