Ecstasy seized

A large quantity of ecstasy tablets, with a value estimated at about £700, was seized in a drugs raid in Liskeard on Friday evening.

Police officers of the Caradon Action Team used a search warrant at a property in the Station Road area between 8.30pm-9pm, where the drugs were recovered. Three men, all in their early 20's were arrested and are currently on police bail. D C Russ Hall of Liskeard Police, said the team acted on information received.

The Caradon Action Team comprises detectives and uniformed officers who are tasked to deal with any problems in the area, which includes street disturbances and vandalism.

Homes evacuated

Householders from 15 properties in Carbeile Road, Torpoint, were evacuated from their homes at lunchtime on Sunday after a gas leak from a damaged pipe in one of the houses was discovered.

Fire crews from Torpoint, Liskeard and Saltash arrived to evacuate people in the nearby properties and an emergency centre was set up at Carbeile School for about an hour, while a Transco worker inspected the damage.

Computers stolen

Thieves stole lap-top computers, a video recorder and computer equipment form Brunel Primary School in Saltash in a break-n via a window which took place some time between Friday evening and Monday morning.

Tunnel speed limit

The 30mph speed limit on the Tamar Bridge has been extended to cover the Saltash tunnel as well, where the limit was previously 50mph. The slower speed will be maintained throughout the period during which repairs on the bridge continue.

Gift to Deano

Callington Town Council has presented Dean Shipton with a barometer to mark the Cornwall Rugby team's championship victory on Saturday. Dean, who lives in Kelly Bray, was invited to the town council meeting on Tuesday to receive the barometer, along with his family.

Theft from shed

Garden machinery, including a chain saw, hedge trimmer, spade and pickaxe, has been stolen from a shed at a house in St Ive. The thefts took place between May 18 and 22 at Woolston House, St Ive. If anyone saw anyone in the area during this time acting suspiciously would they please contact Pc Ben Hollins at Liskeard Police Station.

Web for GM info

Friends of the Earth has launched a web site this week to give the public information on GM food test sites. The site will enable those who access it to find out where GM food test sites are in their own areas together with the nearest five organic farms.

Portillo visit

Former Tory minister Michael Portillo visited SE Cornwall last week, calling in at the Manuscript factory in Liskeard where he was shown the various processes involved in framing pictures and mirrors for many of the main retailing chains.

He was particularly interested in the firm's creche, one of a very small number run on industrial premises and subsidised by the company for the children of some of its 60 employees.
