Looe bomb scare
The cause of a bomb scare in Looe on Thursday (yesterday) afternoon, turned out to be no more than a ticking telephone.
After a phone call from worried staff at the Cancer shop in Fore Street, East Looe, at around 1.40pm, that a package left on the floor was ticking, the local police took emergency action and evacuated the shop and surrounding areas, which included many holidaymakers out to enjoy the sunshine.
Closer inspection of the package revealed an old style telephone which was upside down and spring loaded, the cause of the clicking noise.
The polling station for the local election, which was in the Guildhall, was not affected.
