FOR the third consecutive time Terry Wright from Looe has been selected to represent Great Britain in the World Transplant Games. At the next games, scheduled to take place in London, Ontario, Canada in July 2005, 60 year old Terry, who received a kidney transplant in 1992, will compete as a super veteran. He hopes to take part in the long jump, double/singles table tennis and the 5km walk. He is also considering a longer distance run, possibly the 400 metres. Terry has been resting since the British Transplant Games in which he competed as a veteran, winning a gold for hurdles, and silvers for the long jump and 5km walk, but now his selection for the Great Britain squad for Canada has been confirmed he is to begin his training again in earnest. Having scooped a number of medals from the Japan and France Games he is hoping to do as well in Canada. Terry's wife Hilary, who will be accompanying him to the Games and who helps with his training says they are thrilled he has once again been selected. 'We are also delighted for Derriford Hospital, home of the South West Transplant Centre,' said Hilary. 'As well as Terry, two more of their patients, both women, from Plymouth and Dorset, will also be competing.' The couple say the Games are important to them because it promotes the carrying of donor cards and encourages transplant patients to keep fit and shows what can be achieved.'
