A MAJOR event for the town will be the variety concert involving many local people at Looe Community School Sports Hall, tomorrow night (Saturday), January 29, in aid of the Tsunami Disaster Appeal. Organised by Looe and District Christian Aid Committee, the evening begins at 7pm, compered by Michael Taylor, local reporter for BBC Radio Cornwall. In the line up are both the junior and senior schools, 1st Looe Sea Scouts, Sheila's School of Dancing, Looe Valley Singers, Polperro Fishermen's Choir, The Looe Entertainers, Looe U3A, Phil Keene and Pat Harris, and the Pelynt Male Voice Choir. The Looe Valley Rotary Club, who have already donated the posters and tickets, will be holding an 'Auction of Promises' and the Looe Friendly Wives are organising a big raffle during the interval. Looe Lions Club are also helping out and Looe's famous pirates and their wenches will be the programme sellers. The town's mayor and mayoress, Ron and Pat Overd will begin the proceedings and local clergy and Churches Together will be present to conclude the event. John Trethewey, chairman of Looe and District Christian Aid says this is Looe's one big whole community event so he is appealing for as many people as possible to come along to enable the town to send 'a huge cheque' to help the disaster victims. The recipients of the fundraising night will be Cornish based Rotary charity Shelterbox and for the work of Christian Aid being carried out in the stricken areas.
