TWO former pupils of Torpoint Community College were among the Royal Navy recruits who took part in HMS Raleigh's first passing-out parade of 2007. Trainee air engineering technician Stephen Forgan, 21, and 16-year-old trainee weapons specialist (mine warfare) Tom Earl have just completed their initial training course at the Royal Navy's South West training establishment. The course has taught them the basic skills they will rely upon throughout their Royal Navy careers. Stephen fulfilled a lifetime ambition to join the Service last November, while Tom is following in the footsteps of his brother, Jim, in choosing a career in the Royal Navy. Jim is currently an air engineering technician based at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose. A former postal worker and customer service assistant, Stephen will now move to HMS Sultan, in Gosport, Hampshire, for his professional training. 'It is exciting to think that I have passed this stage of my training and I am about to go to my professional course. I plan to take every opportunity given to me along the path of my career,' he said. Tom is also heading for Hamphire to undergo specialist training at HMS Collingwood, Fareham. 'It's wicked to have completed training,' Tom said. 'I'm now looking forward to the next stage and ultimately getting out into the fleet.'
