SALTASH Video Group has just gained an international award for their film about Saltash. Entitled 'Saltash, Looking Back', the film features four local residents, one of whom, Len Freeman, died since the film was made, and includes shots of the Waterside and other scenes around Saltash. 'Saltash, Looking Back' was entered in the Cotswold International Film and Video Festival 2004 and came second out of over 100 entries from all over the world. The group gained a silver diploma certificate which the mayor of Saltash, Sue Hooper, officially presented to the group in the mayor's Parlour. Judges commended the good camera work, and said that it was professionally produced and was a gem for local people. Mrs Hooper, presenting the certificate to Alan Barrett, Chairman of the Group, said that although they were a small group, they had gone from strength to strength with their film making and hoped they would gain a gold award next time. A member of the group, Pip Critten, also gained a silver diploma for coming second with his film 'Koi Keepers', which was filmed on location at the annual show of the Plymouth and District Koi Keepers Society at Saltash Garden Centre this year. The Video Group started life as the Delta Cine Group in 1962 by Alan Barrett and his wife Sheila, who are still Chairman and treasurer. Over the years the group has made many films and newsreels about Saltash and other areas, but then changed to video as it was cheaper. They have had successes in previous national competitions, and are now planning their next production. Their winning film was shown at this year's May Fair film evening.
