THE South East Cornwall Conservative Party has paid tribute to MP Sir David Amess and says it has suspended all campaigning in the wake of his murder yesterday.

The MP was stabbed multiple times at his constituency surgery at a church in Leigh-on-Sea.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion on murder.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke of his shock and sadness at the loss of a man he described as one of the kindest people in politics.

All police forces have been asked by the Home Secretary Priti Patel to immediately review security arrangements for Members of Parliament.

David Amess, who was 69, had been an MP since 1983 and was married with five children.

Chairman of SE Cornwall Conservatives Julian Smith said: “South East Cornwall Conservatives are all desperately saddened and shocked by this senseless murder of Sir David, a well respected conservative MP colleague. We offer our deepest condolences to his family.

“We will be suspending all local campaigning until further notice, in respect.”
