Residents of St Dominick are being encouraged to call into their parish church to see an unusual ‘living Advent calendar’.
Each day, bags filled with gifts or foods are being brought to the church by a group or business and placed in one of the windows; after Christmas, they will be given to the elderly, to children in Derriford Hospital, or to the Callington Foodbank.
‘The idea behind the living Advent calendar is to mark the importance of our church within the community,’ said Parochial Church Council member Brian Jones. ‘We hope that people call into the church to see what has been added just as if they are opening up the windows of Advent calendars in their own homes,’ he added.
On Christmas Eve, a pupil from St Dominic Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School will present the last bag of advent to the Rev Chris Painter at the Christingle service.
