People along the south coast of Devon and Cornwall have been warned of possible disturbance from live firing at sea from a Royal Marines exercise.

Members of Plymouth –based 1 Assault Group Royal Marines will be conducting a blank-firing exercise between Dartmouth and Fowey until next Friday (December 2).

White flare illuminations may also be used to help the exercise.

A spokesman said: ’We apologise in advance for any disturbance from the firing that might occur. However, the blank firing will be taking place as part of the essential vocational career courses we run for Royal Marines landing craftsmen.  The next generation of Royal Marines landing craft coxswains and commanders are being trained. These exercises are a vital part of their development and validation.’

Looe and Fowey are likely to be affected on Sunday (November 27), and Looe, Pentewan and Bodinnick on Monday (November 28).
