LISKEARD’s COVID-safe outdoor Remembrance Service will be going ahead on Sunday (November 8), as the local Royal British Legion (RBL) says it has checked the Government guidelines and its plans meet the criteria.

The Government has said that so long as events are outside, are short and focused on wreath-laying, and so long as social distancing can be maintained, commemorative events can be held.

While the usual church service and parade to the War Memorial will not take place, a smaller Remembrance service will be conducted at the former Cattle Market.

Wreaths laid at a temporary wooden cross will later be transferred to the War Memorial in Castle Park. Attendees should assemble at the lower end of the Cattle Market at 10.15am.

While mass gatherings and parades are obviously completely out this year, the Royal British Legion has said that it is up to branches in individual towns and villages whether they hold their Remembrance services. Many have opted for smaller events with just one or two representatives of each organisation: some branches are inviting people to lay wreaths in their own time.
