Bude's Junior Open tennis ran over the Spring Bank Holiday week with 143 children from all parts of the country taking part. The event is in its 17th year and this year was sponsored by North Tamar Business Network.
The event was one of the first tournaments which make up the Sunday Telegraph Grand Prix and maximum points were earned by Liam Storey (Liskeard) in the Boys Open and Amanda Cox (Exeter) in the Girls Open. The 14&U points were won by Adam Jarvis (St Austell) and Lois Fletcher (Plymouth). All these Finals were very close and exciting affairs with Liam defeating Tim Webster (Bodmin) 6/4, 7/6 and Amanda beating Vicki Eames (Liskeard) 1/6, 6/1, 7/5 in the Open Finals. In the younger age group Adam defeated NIck Owen (Ivybridge) 6/3, 2/6, 6/4 and Lois beat Helen Wilson (Bodmin) 7/5, 6/4.
There was no doubt that Liam Storey was the star of the week as in addition to the Open he also retained his 16&U tital beating Toby Rawlings (Bristol) 6/4, 6/3 and, in partnership with Tim Webster, won the Boys Open Doubles by defeating Duncan Grew (Bath) and Toby Rawlings 6/4, 4/6, 6/1.
In the Girls events Helen Wilson had an excellent week reaching 4 Finals but unfortunately only managed to win one, the 14&U Mixed Doubles partnered by Adam Jarvis beating Nick Owen and Rosie Ford (South Wales) 6/1, 6/4. In addition to the 14&U Final she also lost the Girls 16&U Final by 6/2, 6/1 to Helen Stubbs (Truro) and also the 14&U Girls Doubles, partnered by Elizabeth Thorpe (Taunton) to Rosie Ford and Sadie Thwaites (South Wales) 4/6, 6/4, 6/3.

LOOE tennis club at Hannafore is celebrating the re-opening of its re-surfaced courts with two 'open days' of tennis.
On Saturday, June 17, between 10.30 and 12.30 all children aged between six and 16 are welcome to come and play on the new surface.
On Sunday June 18 between 10 and 3 pm the courts are open to adults and children of all ages.
The tennis is free of charge and players are requested to wear tennis shoes. There will also be a table top sale of 'treasures' in the club house.
The club is keen to encourage more people to play tennis and these open days are a 'taster' for any aspiring Agassis and Kournikovas.
