Under-16 Plate Semi-Final
Liskeard 31 Camborne 14
BUOYED by the first team's exploits the day before in the EDF Junior Vase, the Under-16 Lions booked their place in the Plate Final with a disciplined display of open and exciting rugby.
The front row of Alex Rogers, Tom Fieldhouse and Ross Sanders were so dominant in the scrums that the visitors changed their props over several times in a vain bid to counteract their supremacy.
Flanker Max Earle constantly disrupted Camborne's possession – and repeated charges by second rows Adam Tindall-Powell and Tom Ham, along with No.8 Jamie Lewis, soon set up good field position.
From a scrummage ball, a move allowed centre Kyle Worth to make a break and put away speedy winger Luke Cloak down the left wing to score the opener.
From lovely line-out ball, courtesy of soaring skipper Tom Hancock, Worth then took the ball to run right through the midfield defence from the halfway line and score under the posts, which was converted by Cloak.
The visitors replied after creating an overlap to score down the left wing, only for ill-discipline to result in a penalty five metres out from the home line.
Stand-off Chris Chew took a quick tap and put away Tom Hancock, who raced to halfway then fed Chew in support to finish a well-worked try that covered the length of the pitch. Again the conversion was added by Cloak.
Poor Liskeard tackling allowed Camborne's powerful No.8 to score from a close range penalty, but another fine home try was then started by scrum-half Robbie McCartney from a quick penalty.
Tom Hancock, after making a great dummy break, passed
to Kyle Worth, who rounded the defence in style to score as Cloak added the extras.
Liskeard were awarded a scrum near the visitors' line, and from the resulting ruck Robbie McCartney ran over his opposite number to seal the match, Cloak kicking over again.
Worth and McCartney were named 'Men of the Match'.
On Sunday Liskeard-Looe face Penryn at home.
