Competition for

carnival royalty

THE Lions are reminding all the youngsters in Liskeard aged between 4-13, that the time is soon arriving when they will have their chance to enter the competition for the choosing of the Fairy Queen and two attendants.

The event takes place at the Royal British Legion Club in Barn Street on Friday, May 10 at 7pm, when there will also be a disco. The lucky trio will then head the Liskeard Carnival procession on June 22, and will also be expected to represent the town at other local carnivals.

The Lions Club sponsor the Fairy Queen with £100 and the attendants with £75 each to help pay for their regalias.

So come on girls and boys don't be shy, come and have a go at being the pride of Liskeard. And make sure you bring mum and dad or a responsible adult with you.

Entry forms are available from the Cornish Times reception office in Bay Tree Hill, and should be taken to the competition.

Bach choir festival

Liskeard's East Cornwall Bach Choir will perform the Bach B Minor Mass for its May Festival at St Germans on Saturday, May 11.

The choir, augmented by members of the South West Chamber Choir, will be conducted by musical director Simon Ible.

A quartet of soloists have been assembled, including local soprano Natalie Clifton Griffith who returns after recently winning second prize at London's New Handel Singing competition.
