LISKEARD Lions Club have held the district finals for the Lions Club International youth award scheme, with Gemma Deacon of St Keyne emerging as the successful candidate.
Candidates for the Liskeard Lions Club were Gemma as well as Nicola Turner of Dobwalls and Susie Moore of Liskeard. They were interviewed by judges Katherine Symons, Joan Moffatt and David Brown at the Lord Eliot Hotel, Liskeard, although Susie was unable to attend due to a previous appointment in London. Each of the girls were presented with a certificate and book token by Lions president Richard Brown who thanked them for their service to the local community.
The event was organised by Lion Alan Parsons who said he was grateful for the efforts given by the judges, and to John Batey of Liskeard School and Community College for his support for the three applicants.
