Plea to tackle
seagull problem
THE perennial question of seagulls arose once more at Liskeard town council's monthly meeting, on Tuesday.
Ernest Arundell told fellow councillors that residents in Lake Lane have encountered problems with gulls, and there is a feeling that up until now the council has just been 'playing at' the problem.
Town mayor Tony Powell said he could understand their feelings, and it was suggested that the matter be put on October's agenda so that the council could draw up a strategy for 2002, way before the season's nesting period.
This means the matter would be discussed in time for any expenses to be included in the precept for the next financial year.
Mr Arundell made a plea for residents not to feed gulls.
It was agreed that letters should be sent out to certain areas urging people not to do this.
The matter was raised in the same week of a report that a gull attacked a woman near Liskeard's Greenbank Christian Centre, causing her to have a tetanus injection.
