Positive moves
on skateboard
ramp for park
MOVES are being made to ensure that the wooden skateboard ramp, purchased secondhand by Liskeard town council many months ago, is put in place on Rapsons Field as quickly as possible.
Town councillors meeting on Tuesday said they were aware that the summer holidays were fast approaching, and that local young people would be anxious to use such facilities. However, they have been faced with varying costings from Caradon council which show that completing a skateboard park could cost up to £9,393.
It was agreed that the council would authorise the go-ahead of works within their financial limit (around £5,000), without returning the matter to committees and so holding up completion. If there were major differences in price, though, the matter would have to be discussed further by members. However, it was decided that the ramp should be proofed as soon as possible, and that investigations should be made to see if the design of the ramp 'cradle' would hold a subsequent concrete ramp at one stage.
Former mayor, Pat Ambler, said she had approached various local builders for assistance towards the project. Caradon council has already offered a contribution.
Mike Gillbard urged that the council proceeds with the project. He pointed out that the idea of it had stemmed from letters from local young people, submitted for Liskeard's town capsule.
The meeting also heard that Steve Foster, of Caradon council, had estimated the cost of cleaning up the basketball courts at Rapsons Field as £475 (sweeping, jet washing and relining etc), and the cost of regular maintenance at £915 per annum, this to include two sweeps and grass cutting per month. Caradon have shown they are willing to contribute to this.
WITH no-one coming forward to apply for the vacancy on Liskeard town council, caused by the resignation through ill-health of Jeanne Rees, the matter has been re-advertised.
The vacancy is on the south ward of the council. The deadline for applications has now been extended to July 13. If more than one application is received the council will decide which of the applicants is to fill the vacancy.
Applications should be made to clerk to the council, Brenda Furse, at 3 West Street, Liskeard, PL14 6BW.
Glass lobby plan
at Luxstowe House
CARADON council are seeking listed building consent to construct a toughened safety glass lobby within the reception area at Luxstowe House.
A new partition and glazed timber door would also be provided, with the aim of preventing draughts and heat loss.
