Collections to aid
people in poverty
THE Liskeard Churches Together have decided there will not be a house-to-house collection for Christian Aid week in the town this year, which is set to run from Sunday, May 13, until Saturday, May 19.
Instead local supermarkets have given permission for collectors to receive donations between 9am and 4pm at the following venues: Monday 14, Pioneer, Tuesday 15, Safeway, Thursday 17, Pioneer and Somerfield, and Friday 18, Pioneer. The last collection will be at Trago Mills on Saturday 19.
Anyone who would like to spend an hour collecting at any of the above venues and has not yet given their name to a church representative is asked to call Brian Johnson on 01579 344195 or Val Field on 01579 363063.
Christian Aid believes in life before death whch means strengthening people to find their own solutions to the problems they face. The charity works in over 60 countries through churches and other local organisations who share this commitment.
As well as giving help on the ground through 16 overseas offices, they supply funds to local partner organisations for specific projects in their own communities, and monitor progress to ensure that money is spent where it will have the most impact. They work where the need is greatest, irrespective of religion.
Display will give insight into
expedition to rainforest
BEN Roswell is setting up an exhibition about his Raleigh International expedition to a rainforest in Brunei.
The exhibition is still in the planning stage but Ben is hoping to include features such as the day to day activities of the exhibition, the type of wildlife in the rainforest, the setting up of eco-tourism projects for small rural communities, working on conservation projects in the jungle and the physical demands of working, trekking and kayaking through the harsh environment, filtering rain water and carrying food supplies.
The exhibition will be held in the top room of the Fountain Hotel in Liskeard during the summer, although the dates have yet to be released.
