Festive fun at

school fayre

THE pupils of Liskeard Junior School, in Old Road, are extending a warm welcome to the community to join them at their fundraising Christmas craft fayre, tonight (Friday), December 8, from 6.30pm.

Santa will be in his grotto and there will be entertainment from the school's excellent choir, Liskeard Junior Silver Band and a group of handbell ringers. There will be games for children to play, and a variety of stalls bulging with crafty ideas for presents, made by local people, plus all the usual cakes, pickles and preserves. There will also be a display of the pupils' Christmas cakes made for a keenly fought competition.

The raffle prizes include a colour TV, meal for two at The Hayloft and pantomime tickets.

for Bloomers

LISKEARD In Bloom are delighted they were able to attract new friends and members to their plant sale at Stuart House on Saturday. A wonderful array of plants from poinsettias and cyclamens to small firs and cacti from Tony Brown's nursery at Trewidland, and from Roger Gerry, St Neot, were very popular.Also on show were new member Ray Piggot's range of stained glass clocks and lamps.

The Bloomers are grateful to the people of Liskeard for their continued support and look forward to a strong year ahead.

LISKEARD town council has contacted Caradon council asking for the 'Welcome to Liskeard' sign at Moorswater to be cleaned as it is now green.

It was also mentioned that the Callington Road Hendra sign has graffiti on it. Town councillors were told at their monthly meeting that the matter has now been referred to the county council.

The WRVS

mince pies

THE WRVS in Liskeard is to hold a mince pie and coffee morning for members on December 15 between l0am and noon at Duchy House, 21 Dean Street, Liskeard.

Torchlight plans

being finalised

PLANS are being finalised for Liskeard's torchlight procession with Christmas songs and carols on the Parade.

The event is to be organised by the Lions club of Liskeard and held on Wednesday December 20. Those taking part in the procession will be meeting at St Martin's church hall at 6.30pm, with all moving off at 7pm. The evening is to include a live tableau with manger, crib, two young children as Mary and Joseph, and donkey or donkeys. Carol singing will start on the Parade at 7.30pm and last around one hour.

The compere for the evening will be Philip Hunt, and those attending will include Liskeard silver band and the Porthpyra Singers.

June was

speaker

THE guest speaker at the Liskeard Sisterhood meeting on December 5 was June Mills who spoke on Elizabeth and Mary, the mothers of John and Jesus.

Hymns and readings were for Advent. Mrs Hoskin presided, Mrs Platt was the pianist and refreshments were served by Mrs Clue and helpers.
