Campaign for Liskeard

LISKEARD in Bloom are launching their campaign for new members at their Christmas plant sale on December 2 , 10 am to 4 pm, at Stuart House.

To encourage new members they are highlighting the benefits of joining: the satisfaction of being involved with Liskeard in Bloom with plantings in summer and winter; regular speakers meetings; and the opportunity to buy a wide range of plug plants and part grown plants, from fuchsias to impatiens.

Late hours consultation

LISKEARD town councillors have agreed to support an application from the Carlton Suite in Liskeard for permission to extend opening hours to 2am - if the same conditions as laid down for Webb's Hotel's application for late hours are applied.

The matter came before the town council as part of Caradon council consultations on the matter.

Carols for charities

THE Mayor of Liskeard, Pat Ambler, is to hold her carol concert in the town's public hall on December 10 at 2.30pm.

The event will be led by Liskeard Silver Band. The charge will be £3 for adults, £2 for pensioners and £1 for children, with monies raised going to the mayor's charities. Refreshments will include tea and mince pies.

Coffees for

unit funds

A COFFEE morning in aid of the Friends of Derriford Hospital Kidney Unit is to be held on December 9 from l0am until noon at the Liberal Rooms, Barras Street, Liskeard.

The event will include a raffle, table top sale and books and cake stall.

Investigating access

COSTINGS and grant funding are being sought to provide a disabled access at the rear of the Guildhall in Liskeard.

Town councillors have been told that a 48-metre run would be needed for such an access but this will not be straightforward because of the incline.

New lights for hall

NEW lighting in Liskeard's public hall has been completed, and an application is to be pursued by the town council for a grant for sound equipment for the facility. Councillor Nick Mallard was thanked for the hours had had worked on the lighting project.

Considering website

TOWN councillors in Liskeard are making headway in setting up their own website, as opposed to just having a page on the Chamber of Commerce site.

Toy sale thanks

THE toy sale in aid of Children in Need, held at the Public Hall, Liskeard, raised the sum of £85. A big thank you goes to everyone who made this event a great success.

Pensilva appeal

A DECISION by Caradon council to refuse planning permission for a site at Taormina, School Road, Pensilva has led to an appeal. The appeal, by Mr R J Connor, is to be dealt with by the written representation method.

Special meeting

A SPECIAL meeting of Liskeard town council is to be held in committee on December 7 to discuss proposals regarding storage space at the public hall, car parking and partnership with Caradon council.
