Contest for a mural

A competition is to be held to select the best idea for a mural in the Long Room in Liskeard's Public Hall.

The mural, to be painted on a board, is part of plans to redecorate the room. At their monthly meeting town councillors also decided that photographs in the room, which appertain to the town, should be reprinted. The mayor, Roger Holmes, is to select those photographs which should remain hanging on the walls.

The title for the mural competition is 'Liskeard'.

A profitable exhibition

With 1092 paintings on sale over 25 per cent were sold, plus many other craft items. The charity also benefited from entrance fees, sale of catalogues, the raffle and sale of refreshments.

Anne Purdon, of the Cancer Research Campaign, said: 'The week was a very busy one for the 20 committee members, with their l00 helpers, but well worth it. Thanks to all who helped, and to all the folk of South East Cornwall who came along and supported us.'

Ruby donations for the hospital

Thanks have been extended to Ruby wedding couple, Doreen and Dennis Harvey, by the Cornwall Healthcare NHS Trust.

The couple, who will be celebrating their anniversary on April 1, have asked friends and family not to buy anniversary gifts, but instead to make cash donations to the Passmore Edwards Hospital Amenity fund in Liskeard.

They will be celebrating their 40 years of marriage with a party at the East Taphouse village hall, where a donation box will be provided.

Clinical manager at the hospital, Angela Wond, said: 'We will be absolutely delighted to receive this kind donation from Mr and Mrs Harvey. The money received will be used for the benefit of patients.'

Guide to the paths

An updated footpaths guide has been prepared for Liskeard and the surrounding area.

It is hoped to print l,000 copies of the guide, which is likely to cost between £600-700. It is hoped the funds for the project will be swelled by donations from Caradon and the town forum.

A 'prototype' copy of the guide was shown to town councillors at their March monthly meeting.
