Cornish artists to exhibit

An exhibition and sale of work at Stuart House, Liskeard on March 10-11 will be a first for two young Cornish artists, Tamsin Prudden and Sophie Treloar.

Both artists studied at Falmouth college of art, going on afterwards to specialise in their chosen areas. Sophie went to Winchester college of art to take her degree in textiles, and Tamsin continued her studies at Exeter University, taking a combined degree in English and fine art. Both are now back living in Cornwall, selling their work all over the county, and in London.

The exhibition of contemporary jewellery, and batik designs on scarves, screens and wallhangings, will combine the delicacy of Cornish flowers and objects in the jewellery, and the vibrancy of natural colours in the batik items. The exhibition will be open from l0am until 5.30pm on March 10 and 10am until 4pm on March 11.

Last chance for the fair

The Liskeard Country Fayre could come to a premature end because of a lack of response from the community in setting up the event which has been running for two years.

In a last attempt to get support from the town, a public meeting will be held at the Drill Hall, Barras Cross on Monday March 6 at 7.30pm.

At this meeting, the decision to go ahead with the fayre this year, or pass the dates to some other area, will be taken. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome as this will be a final chance for the country fayre to take place this year and secure a future for the event which has been well received in the past.

Lions' appeal for unwanted specs

Liskeard Lions are appealing for residents in the town to help them collect old spectacles for countries which do not have the standard of eye care enjoyed by the developed world.

Any unwanted glasses - even if they have worn or damaged frames - can leave them at one of the opticians in Liskeard from where they will be picked up by the Lions on a monthly basis. Alternatively they can be dropped in at Geoffrey Harris Tyres in Station Road.

Closer to home the Lions are also appealing for unwanted wheelchairs. They are frequently being asked if they can provide wheelchairs on loan for short periods, and only have one wheelchair themselves which is in constant use. Anyone who can help is asked to contact Lion Richard Brown on Liskeard 345409, or any other Lion.

The club thanks all who supported their pantomime this year. Due to the generosity of the public, who paid to come on the Saturday, and those who bought raffle tickets or donated, close to 600 senior citizens were treated to an evening out for an expenditure of under £500 from the charity fund. Grants were also given by Liskeard town and Caradon district councils.
