Computer for schools voucher
A Liskeard woman is urging everybody who had a computer from manufacturing company Tiny this Christmas, to support local schools with the computer vouchers that are included in the package.
Gill Derrick was one of many people who received a computer this Christmas and is asking people not to waste their 'Free PCs for Schools' voucher that came with Tiny computers.
The company aim to give away 20,000 PCs to Britain's schools, an amount that adds up to around £12 million. A school has to collect 20 vouchers in total which it can then exchange for a free PC worth over £600.
Mrs Derrick said: 'I would guess that a lot of people this year got a computer as a Christmas present and many have the voucher still. I would urge people who have them to support their local school or if people do not want the vouchers, I will collect them and pass the vouchers on to a school.'
If you have a voucher and would like to pass it on to Mrs Derrick, contact her on: (01579) 345423.
Fellowship's
festive lunch
THERE was a festive atmosphere as members and friends of Liskeard Ladies Methodist Fellowship enjoyed a Christmas lunch at Grandma's Pantry.
Grace was said by the President, Mrs Gwen Moss, and everyone brought a gift which was put into Santa's sack. Then it was 'take your pick' time as everyone chose a different parcel and ended up with a present.
Thanks were expressed to Mrs Moss and Mrs Simpson for arranging the event and to the proprietor Mrs Joan Mayer.
The next meeting will be on Monday, January 29 in the side chapel of Liskeard Methodist Church, when a warm welcome is extended to anyone who would like to attend.
Sisterhood party
THE Long Room at the Public Hall was gaily decorated with a Christmas tree for the party of Liskeard Sisterhood, which put everyone in a festive mood.
Mrs Margaret Pemberton conducted the service and the story of Christ's birth was told in readings from the Scriptures and the carols. Candles were lit on each table, and the lights turned off, for the singing of Away In A Manger.
Fun time followed with quizzes, pass the parcel and the singing of the Twelve Days of Christmas. As always a scrumptious tea followed, prepared by Mrs Lorna Clue and helpers, which included a cake cut by Mrs Joan Cooper, who was warmly welcomed after a long period of absence due to illness.
The president, Mrs Win Hoskin, wished everyone a peaceful and happy Christmas and many greetings cards were exchanged.
Sisterhood commences again on Tuesday, January 9 at 2.45pm in the Long Room. Mr Stuart Pearce will be the speaker, and a warm welcome is extended to anyone who would like to share this hour of warm Christian fellowship.
