Last morning for the quilts

The final coffee morning for the collection of quilts for Kosovo is to be held at the long room in Liskeard's public hall on Monday November 8 from l0am until noon.

So far well over 300 quilts have been collected, among them a number from the ladies of St Just senior club. They recently travelled to Trago Mills on a day trip and arranged with quilt organisers, Chris Hallam and Peggy Stewart of Liskeard, to hand over a number of quilts in the store's car park.

At the coffee morning on Monday another group, the Red Rover Quilters, are also due to attend, and add to the collection. Lane's, the removals firm, has agreed to take the final total of quilts collected to Reading later this month, where they will be delivered to Children's Aid Direct who will take them to Kosovo. They will be loaded into the Lane's lorry on November 15 at Liskeard lower school.

Also due to be collected are toiletries and pencils and paper collected by Liskeard junior school, in place of traditional harvest gifts, and items collected by the Inner Wheel of Liskeard and Looe.

Money raised at the series of coffee mornings for Kosovo will be given to Children's Aid Direct to help pay for the petrol to Kosovo.

Wheeling out the fashions

A fashion show, organised by the Liskeard/Looe Inner Wheel, raised funds for Arthritis Care and other charities.

The show, the brainchild of local Inner Wheel president Mary Purdy, was staged by Marianne Fashions of Saltash and Looe, and held at the Hannafore Point Hotel, Looe.

The models included five Inner Wheel members who wore a collection of leisure wear, followed by day wear and a selection of outfits suitable for numerous occasions. There were also clothes on show for the bride's mother, or a day at Ascot, as well as evening wear.

The president thanked Mrs Richards of Marianne Fashions for her work in organising the show and presented her with a bouquet. The raffle sellers were Hetty Nicholas and Pat Richards with Shirley Tamblyn and Nancy Nancollas in charge of the entrance money and Adam Purdy operating the tapes for the background music. A profit of over £400 was raised.

A model time in the school hall

Liskeard school's fund-raising committee, LISCCA, transformed the school's new hall with flowers, a catwalk, spotlighting and disco music for a fashion show by Mackays.

The clothes, supplied by Mackays were modelled by students, teachers, and the store staff, with the younger element being selected from models' friends and families. The music and lighting was in the capable hands of sixth form students, Alex Darling, Chris Hawken and Jeremy White. The hall itself was decorated with fresh and dried flower arrangements, provided by The Flower Gallery, Fore Street, Liskeard. At the close of the evening the fresh flowers were auctioned, with the proceeds being donated by The Flower Gallery to add to the monies raised for school funds, which at the close of the evening totalled £410.

The next event to be arranged by the LISCCA committee will be the Christmas fayre on December 3 commencing at 6pm. This year it is being organised in conjunction with Liskeard school students studying leisure and tourism.
