Looe looks for cleaner public loos

Caradon councillors have been discussing ways and means of keeping the Sea Front public conveniences in East Looe clean for the remainder of the summer, especially in the light of a wave of Eclipse visitors to the town.

The district council has been approached by local representative, David Bryan, who asked for consideration of an idea to provide a full time cleaner at the loos - in a bid to stop them becoming grubby and a big tourist 'turn-off'.

Mr Bryan had, in turn, been contacted by a representative of the East Looe Town Trust who had asked for more regular cleaning of the conveniences.

A Caradon council officer explained: 'At this time of year these public conveniences tend to have constant use by those enjoying the town beach facilities. The existing cleaning is undertaken on a cyclic basis in Looe, and to ensure the toilets are maintained in a clean state at all times would require a permanent cleaner.'

The additional cost of employing a person to be permanently stationed on the Sea Front during the busiest period of the day, until the end of September, would be £2,000.
