THE marquees are up, the cups are polished and the committee is raring to go as Liskeard gets set to stage its 115th agricultural show tomorrow (Saturday, July 14).

The event at Merrymeet is where ‘the country meets the town’ and is at the heart of the rural community in South East Cornwall.

Compact enough to look around at ease, the show nonetheless provides enough to see and do for a whole day out, as traditional livestock classes run alongside exciting displays in the main arena.

New for this year will be a ‘tractor display with a difference’ and the Woolly Jumper Show - details of which are being kept as a surprise but it will involve live sheep and will be ‘a lot of fun’ says secretary Beckie Breyley.

Unaffiliated showjumping will be back tomorrow by popular demand, and the energetic can take up the challenge of bubble football.

For the first time ever this year, terrier racing comes to the arena, and dogs of all breeds are invited to take part.

‘This fast and furious event could be a total frenzy in the main ring,’ said Beckie.

‘Please bring your dog along to take part, various races will be held and it’s free to enter.’

A free bus between Liskeard town centre and the showground at Merrymeet will run every half an hour from 9am through to 6.15pm.
