throgmorton CUP Foxhole Stars 1 Liskeard Athletic 0 Liskeard's involvement in this season's Throgmorton Cup ended at the second round stage at Goverseth Park when they found themselves on the wrong end of the shock result of the day. As Blues assistant manager Paul Goodwin pointed ou it was difficult to lay blame at the door of his players. 'It was one of those days where despite playing some excellent football and creating plenty of chances we just couldn't get past their goalkeeper,' explained Goodwin. The Foxhole goalkeeper in question was Ryan Holland, who had probably the game of his life in the home goal, defying the Blues almost single- handed. The first to curse his luck was James Miller after Holland somehow managed to push his 28th minute shot around a post. Next up was Dominic Richardson, seven minutes before the break, when Holland not only stopped the Liskeard striker's initial shot but also got in the way of Lee Bradd's follow-up. In a game like this when you just cannot score, no matter what you do, there is always one chance that goes the opposition's way, and it duly came along in the 61st minute. Totally against the run-of-play, Colin Morris jinked in from the right before smashing a shot from the edge of the box across Blues' goalkeeper Grant Fisher and inside the far post to give Foxhole a shock lead. Still Liskeard pressed and still Foxhole, and Holland, held out. The Foxhole keeper saved his best moment for the 82nd minute when he somehow kept out James Alexander's close-range effort as Liskeard piled forward in search of an equaliser. Perhaps the writing finally was on the wall minutes from the end when, despite being unmarked, David Woodfield put his header wide at the far post. 'Obviously we're disappointed to lose but credit to Foxhole who kept organised, played deep and defended desperately and effectively,' said a philosophical Goodwin. 'We have to be professional enough to put this behind us and move on, and that we will do this week in training because this season has a long way to go yet,' he concluded.
