A COMPLETE new performance lighting system is to be installed in Liskeard's Public Hall, following an adverse report earlier this year on the safety of the existing lights.
This means that the Hall will be able to provide facilities for a greater range of shows and events than at present.
The new system is to be installed thanks largely to a grant from the single regeneration budget. After the report the town council resolved to commit funding to new lighting, and decided to buy equipment that would not only replace that which exists at present, but also create better facilities.
This decision, together with contributions from Caradon district council, Liskeard Lions, the Musical Theatre group and other Hall users opened the way to an SRB grant of over £20,000.
Applying principles of Best Value, the contract for the new lighting has been given to Ten out of Ten Production Ltd, based in Par. Councillor Nick Mallard said members had been impressed by the company's proposals, and were pleased to be able to award the contract to a local firm.
He said the enhanced system is capable of providing lighting to the body of the Hall, as well as to the stage, and this will make it possible to hold such events as fashion shows and productions 'in the round'.
During the next phase of development of the Hall the council hopes to be in a position to upgrade the sound system - work which they would like to see begin fairly soon.
Mr Mallard said when this is completed the town should have a venue which will attract a greater number of more varied events to Liskeard in the future.
