CORNISH Times readers are being asked to consider their local home producers when recycling glass jars.
The Liskeard Country Market says it has a shortage of the 1lb jam jars its members fill with homemade jams, chutneys and preserves.
Spokesperson Janet Stanton puts this down to people being more aware about recycling - but reusing is even better for the environment, she says.
‘I fear that many jars that we could reuse are now being recycled instead,’ she said.
‘If we bought new jars each time, this would make our preserves too expensive for many local pockets. I know Cornwall Council would agree that reuse is always a better option than recycling.’
Anyone who could donate standard-sized jam jars to the Liskeard Country Market should take them to the Catholic Church on West Street, Liskeard, on Friday mornings.
The St Neot Room at the Catholic Church will be the new temporary home of the market while work to refurbish the Public Hall takes place.
