Liskeard estate's plea for parking
Residents on Liskeard's Lake Lane Estate have become so annoyed by the lack of parking spaces, that they have formed a Residents and Tenants Association.
The final straw came recently when some residents awoke to find that the local traffic warden had been up with the lark before them and fixed warning notices to some cars telling them they were causing obstructions.
Owners were annoyed because they had received no prior notices from Caradon, and also because they have no garages and nowhere else to park. It was Caradon who had asked the police to send the warden.
Caradon's Public Services Unit Manager, Mr Richard Isbell, confirmed that problems are experienced on a Friday when the refuse lorry is trying to get through. 'What we are looking for is co-operation' said Mr Isbell. 'Residents are aware that access must be maintained for both emergency and service vehicles'.
In a letter to Killigarth Road resident Mrs Harveen Bray he said that Lake Lane's problems were not unique on estates in Caradon built during the same era, and that the Housing Services Unit was aware that the estate design did not meet adequate current day vehicular demands.
He said consideration was being given to constructing additional parking bays, but this was being constrained by both financial and land availability.
At a meeting of the new Association, also attended by Caradon councillor Ernest Arundell and town councillor David Rowe, who is chair of the Culverland Park Residents Association, there was a call for proper provision of parking spaces.
There are few garages, no parking spaces, and inadequate turning areas, which are used for parking. Most people park on verges overnight to allow other vehicles to get through.
Another problem is the lack of free parking in the town, which means that many workers coming into Liskeard tend to park their cars around the estate roads during the day.
Mrs Bray, the newly elected chairman, suggested the introduction of a park and ride scheme off Charter Way, which she said would greatly alleviate the situation.
She said it would provide a service, not only to workers, but also to the community at that end of the town, without transport, especially in the Peppers Park area.'
Her idea received full backing.
Other officers elected to the Association were Mrs Sue Butt (treasurer), Mrs Lin Spargo (treasurer), and committee members Phil Baker, Chris Butt, Brian Knight, and Mesdames Julie Williams, Vicky Pollard and Mandy Hoskin.
