It is the end of the line for Liskeard Athletic's East Cornwall Premier League team manager Russell Hale, who resigned following Tuesday evening's Premier Division defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Wadebridge Town.

'It is very sad – I think we have a good team here but it is just not happening,' admitted Hale.

'It was far better I stood down, because it's all about results and our record doesn't lie.'

Hale had earlier agreed to step down following a meeting with club chairman Dave Hick, but had agreed to stay until a successor had been appointed. Tuesday's defeat, though, was the last straw. Hale said: 'It is with extreme and deep regret that I relinquish my post as manager of the Liskeard Reserves.
