A LISKEARD woman was part of a 200-strong team of fundraisers that took to the wheel to help a cancer charity. Lisa Stamton took part in the Marie Curie Ladies' Driving Challenge, held at RAF Portreath, in which £34,000 was raised. The women had to put their motoring skills to the test, maneouvering large vehicles under the watchful eye of a Cornwall Advanced Motorist instructor. Thirty companies loaned vehicles and instructors for the day, with fire engines, tractors and heavy good lorries among those available for driving. Local Marie Curie fund raising manager, Lynda Thomas, said: 'I would like to express my thanks to the many companies who helped us host this day. Without their help we would not be able to stage the event. 'We also had support from more than 100 volunteers who helped on registration, catering and marshalling duties.' Next year's event is already being organised, and is again expected to be held at Portreath.
