Members of Lions clubs in Callington, Launceston, Liskeard, Looe, Saltash and Torpoint/Rame have supported the Plymouth Oncology Centre.

Dr Amy Roy, consultant clinical oncologist, received a cheque for £1,550 from Lions zone chairman David Rosson.

Dr Roy’s department aims to raise £80,000 for a molecular testing machine.

Dr Roy said: ‘The machine enables specific parts of the cancer cells to be tested allowing for early identification of the most effective drugs for the individual patient.

‘The ability to perform all molecular testing in-house at Derriford Hospital will enable the oncology team to start patients on the most effective treatment more quickly.’
