QUARTER-FINALS

Liskeard-Looe 29

St Austell 10

The Cornwall One leaders sailed, all flags flying, into the semi-finals with this confident, four-try crushing of their close League rivals at Lux Park.

It was one of Liskeard's best displays of the season and delighted club president Chris Jewells said: 'We're absolutely thrilled. It was a cracking game of rugby, inventive and ambitious, and with a very good referee.

'We gave a brilliant all-round performance. They didn't really have any room to move and we dominated. Apart from in the first ten minutes of the second half and for five minutes midway through it. they were never in our 22.'

The home three-quarters were on top form with three tries before halftime when Liskeard led 18-0.

First the two wings, Phil Bennett and Ryan Morris crossed after fluent handling moves, then centre Andy Sheer went over. Baz Hocking landed a penalty in the 22nd minute.

After the break it was more of the same. although the Saints did mount a determined, if short-lived, rally from the re-start which brought them a penalty by fly-half Paul Newnham.

The comeback faded, however, as Liskeard got back into gear. Hocking added 11 more points to his personal tally with a try and two further penalties.

This gave Liskeard a 29-3 lead in the 70th minute and there was no way back for a brave, battling Saints.

They did manage a consolation try five minutes from time, replacement lock Milo Bright getting the touchdown after some powerful forward play with Newnham adding the extras, but it was well and truly Liskeard's day.
