A COMMUNITY group has been assisting local residents and giving financial donations during the coronavirus pandemic

Callington and District Lions have been delivering medicines and groceries to the vulnerable and elderly in the town and surrounding villages.

They have also given financial donations to Callington’s Food Bank and Plymouth Soup Run, among other groups.

Among those receiving a delivering of groceries were Derek and Joan Adams of Kelly Bray (pictured).

Derek and Joan said they were very appreciative of the Lions for their weekly deliveries and other help they had received. It is especially welcome as they will soon be celebrating their 70th Wedding Anniversary.

Lion Tina Sandercock commented that the medicine and grocery deliveries was very well organised and coordinated by Callington Town Council with each volunteer carrying clear identification. She added that Lions are on hand every Tuesday; with other charities, including Callington Combined Churches, Rotary Club, Battling On and Callington Community College assisting on other days.

Callington Town Council have said that if you are self-isolating or are in a vulnerable group and if you require grocery or medical deliveries or other assistance, then you can telephone the council on 01579 384039.

Tina added that if you would like to join Callington and District Lions and assist with their charity work please telephone 0845 833 7527 or see the website:
