LISKEARD Lights Up organisers are promising there will soon be the chance to see the lanterns made for this year’s parade, following the cancellation of the procession due to Saturday’s very windy and wet conditions.
While the reluctant decision had been taken to call off the parade, a crowd of around 300 put a brave face on the weather, and gathered in the town centre determined to enjoy some festive cheer.
One of the biggest events on the town’s calendar and dubbed the winter carnival, the lanterns would normally have attracted more than 1,000 onlookers lining one end of The Parade to the other.
Chairman of the Lights Up committee John Lennon said: ‘It was the right decision to cancel, but we’re going to do our best to get the lanterns seen – we’re discussing this week how we’ll go about displaying them for public view, so keep an eye out for an announcement.’
