A SOUTH East Cornwall Foodbank has announced that it will this week becoming a food club – the first in the county.
Lighthouse Community Centre CIC, based in Liskeard at Unit 6b, Heathlands PL14 4DH, says of the new Lighthouse Food Club: ‘We are excited to announce that our food bank has moved over to a FOOD CLUB, the first in Cornwall, officially opening on Tuesday, 11th January, working with Fareshare and Morrison’s to ensure we can provide regular access to a sustainable supply of food to vulnerable people.
“We started a food bank in March 2020 when the pandemic first started and we have come a long way since then. As well as Fareshare and Morrison’s, Cornwall Community Foundation, Feeding Britain, The Bennelong Foundation and Co-op have all helped to make this possible.
“This service will help people who are struggling, increase their disposable income, reduce food waste and provide additional support services to improve life chances and wellbeing.
“It’s available to anyone living in the Liskeard and Looe area who is in a vulnerable position, that might be being isolated, elderly, disability, or low income. The only criteria for joining the Food Club will be to have an initial consultation with one of the Lighthouse Team within the first 3 months of signing up and proof of address.
“We respond quickly with one of the most important resources people need, food! Operating an informal, friendly and confidential approach, we provide a place of care where people can find social support in a kind, caring and non judgemental environment.
‘To find out more or join up please get in touch. You can message, email or phone us.”
Annual membership of the club will be £4 plus £3.50 for a food box normally worth £15-£20-plus. Opening times will be 12pm-6pm on Tuesdays and 10am-4pm on Thursdays.
