A team of RNLI lifeguards were welcomed into Looe by cheering supporters after paddling 10 miles from Whitsand Bay for charity. The seven exhausted men completed the epic journey in four hours and ten minutes on rescue boards using just their arms to paddle through the water. They hope to have raised £1,500 for the RNLIs South West Lifeguard Appeal and Looe inshore lifeboat appeal.
James Millidge, RNLI lifeguard supervisor and team leader, said: The first five miles were really tough we were paddling straight into six knots of wind with the sun in our eyes and lots of sea spray. It was probably the worst day of the season so far that we could have picked to do the paddle. There were times when I really hated it, and other times when I thought how brilliant the experience was. Finishing in Looe to such applause was just fantastic and a real achievement.
The original line-up of eight lifeguards changed slightly, with two pulling out and one stepping in at the last minute. The final line-up was James Millidge, Joel Bishop, Beau Gillett, Charlie Gillett, James Crump, Conner Waldock and Mike Wafer who took up the challenge during the last week.
On arrival in Looe, the RNLI lifeguards took part in a training exercise with the volunteer crew from Looe lifeboat station.
