Thank you for inviting thoughts on the town centre's new look.

Yes, it is pretty at the moment and should be for a few weeks with the colourful begonias in bloom.

How very sad that the slip road, with its vital parking spaces, previously provided and fully used for 52 weeks per year, has been sacrificed without alternative provision being made.

For example, the Parade Surgery has six full-time general practitioners and full supporting staff to look after the vital needs of thousands of patients each year, of all ages and conditions.

Just think of the patients with arthritis, mobility problems in wheel-chairs, with crutches and other aids. Or think of those with respiratory and heart problems whose every breath is a struggle.

Previously, friends and relatives could bring theirs car very near and the taxi had its own space to pick up as needed.

A few colourful flowers are no compensation for the loss of independence and dignity. In fact it is far worse than a 'kick in the teeth' for those who have lost most helpful facilities.

Perhaps now thoughts and provision should be made, without further delay, to compensate for what has been lost.
