Letters of the week - Ghost force on patrol

Call it progress if you like, but I consider it a backward step when I can't put a name to any of the police or support staff at the Callington station.

Went twice to the 'cop-shop' to report a break-in at the allotment shed. Although the car-park there was practically filled with civilian and police cars, nobody wanted to answer the door. The third time, I had more success and was attended to (although I must confess I was reluctant to report the incident at all).

There was a time - before every constable was issued with a motor-car - when everyone knew their friendly 'community constable'. He knew, too, who was most likely to be behind the spates of petty pilfering; who was more than likely to be involved in drunken brawls.

What a shame Callington has been neglected as far as law and order goes. According to the size of the population, we should have something like seven policemen working from the Callington station.
