With reference to the outline planning consent sought by the local Primary Care Trust for the now redundant Passmore Edwards Hospital building and land in Liskeard. I have had occasion to attend the Planning Control Committee (West) meetings in the Caradon Council Chamber at Luxstowe House, Liskeard. Various people keep telling me and those other interested parties that the application is 'only' for the outline planning stage at present and therefore there is no point in objecting as the planning consent sought will change and the plot of land will be sold on once the outline consent has been given. However if we do not make our objections known now to the council, I can hear people saying 'Why did you not object when you had the chance? There was no objections at the outline planning stage'. At least by now the PCT and the planning committee have some idea of the concerns of the local residents and must be aware that we expect those concerns to be treated with some respect. There was one other item that appeared to surface and that was educational benefits and other benefits. This I found most disturbing as the planning applicant with the application can donate these 'benefits' to the council. Perhaps a councillor might like to explain this? I'm sure that had the PCT presented a reasonable planning application for this site, there would be few objections at this stage. I believe that they should go away and re-think the application and perhaps take on board the residents' objections.
