Following the publication of the article in the Cornish Times on December 9 concerning the proposed demolition of the old Passmore Edwards Hospital it is amazing that there hasn't been a flood of letters to the newspaper in favour of retaining that building and putting it to good use, especially when such a fuss was made about the derelict Toll House on the Bubble site. From talking to people locally it has become obvious that many do feel that the building left as a legacy by Passmore Edwards for the good of the local people should be retained and the whole site developed sensitively for the good of Liskeard and district. To cram 34 one and two bedroom residences into that site as the present planning application suggests would be lunacy, especially as they are likely to be taken over by a housing association which would then make them available as somewhere to put problem tenants from far and wide as has happened elsewhere in Liskeard. The present owners, the Primary Care Trust are obliged by the Government to obtain 'best value' for the site but what about the needs and wishes of the local community for the use of a building and land provided for the local community. If you don't want to see Passmore Edwards Hospital demolished and a development that will probably become some sort of a problem area write to or contact your councillors, MP and local paper, the Cornish Times.
