Further to the letter in the June 17 edition of the Cornish Times from J Turner, Sector Inspector - Liskeard and Looe Police, and the very significant response last week from Malcolm S Dann, a former PC, I would like to make the following observations. I should imagine that all the local motorised miscreants are trembling at their respective steering wheels and handlebars after reading, if they ever did, all what may befall them if they happened to transgress the outlined laws. The very reason why such anti-social behaviour occurs is that the general public never see a patrolling officer and that there is very little danger of reprimand or arrest for the perpetrators of such behaviour. We in Liskeard are fortunate in the fact that we do see, during office hours, the occasional patrol car rushing from the local police station to attend a call out, thus reassuring us that there is still a constabulary in the area. Who is going to enforce this new vehicular clamp-down, the same non-evident taskforce as at present? Get real, Mr Turner, show some 'street-cred' and realise that plenty of hard blue muscle in view of the public is the only solution, not apparently whimpish finger wagging letters in the local press. We might all be better served if all the size 10s were out from under desks and either walking, pedalling or driving amongthe local communities who fund the service. Perhaps the motto should be 'Pro-Active is better than Re-Active'.
