I feel compelled to rant, sorry write, with regards to the piece in the Cornish Times regarding the historic Old Toll House in Liskeard and its very sad and lonely future. I say lonely but clearly there are local conservationists and members of the last family to inhabit the building who still care for the unstable relic that stands on the "Bubble" site. Although I agree that this building is of certain importance as it has a grade II listing, I fear that once stabilised/renovated it will be historic amongst our generation for wasting a great deal of our money and a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together whilst providing local employment. Developing the site would prove that the town council and town planners are in touch with the community that they are employed to serve instead of being forced embarrassingly into a financial corner by a minority living in the past without any foresight for the town's future itself. After all the building's importance of grade II listing is arguable as there were plans afoot by the government to demolish it providing there was benefit to the community. So let's build more houses, create no jobs or leisure facilities for the increased population and sit back and watch everyone drive their cars out of here for leisure time, passing on the way a solitary toll house lovingly restored for the admiration of... and for the use of..? My case is rested.
