NONE of us can fail to have been moved by the dreadful plight of the victims of the tsunami around the Indian Ocean. The people of Looe have responded wonderfully by giving donations to our Rotary Club for the purchase of shelter boxes which each provide a 10 person tent, 10 sleeping bags, a water purification kit, tools and other essentials. Since the Boxing Day disaster, 1000 of the life saving boxes have been dispatched and in the coming weeks over 1000 more will be on their way thus providing accommodation for 20,000 people. We have held a street collection, New Year revellers at the Hannafore Point Hotel and the congregation of St Martin's Church were extremely generous and the many cheques received from individuals have enabled our club to make a meaningful contribution to this marvellous cause. The concert at Looe School on Saturday, January 29, will be another opportunity to support the people most in distress. Please continue to help if you are able, and then the next 2000 boxes can be flown out to the people in desperate need.
