Burglars stole £12,000 from a leisure centre safe in the early hours of Wednesday. The thieves broke in through a window of Garden Sports Leisure Centre, Antony Road, Torpoint and took the money between 11pm, Tuesday night and 7am the next morning. Owner of the club Tina Peters is appealing for witnesses: 'We want these people caught, it is long hours and hard work and somebody just come along and taken it away. It is a horrible thing to do.' The police do not know how many people were involved in the robbery but it is believed to be the work of professionals. 'The police say they have seen this work before and they suspect it is a group they have been after for some time,' said Mrs Peters. 'We don't normally have a large amount of money in the safe. We have been burgled before, only two weeks after opening. We got more CCTV, more alarms and more locks, what more can we do.' Anybody with any information is asked to contact Torpoint police.
