Callington arrived at Trescobeas after a rainy morning and with more rain forecast for later in the day. After inviting the home side to bat first Jim Shorten was pleased to see his opening bowler Aidan Libby dismiss Johnson with his fifth delivery, despite suffering from a touch of tonsillitis. Rob Harrison took a return catch to dismiss Jon Udy and Libby struck again in the next over to bowl county player Anthony Angove for just a single.
Falmouth skipper Duncan Ayres was showing resistance, and survived a couple of dropped catches, but he could only watch with increasing despair as the wickets tumbled at the other end with no-one able to reach double figures. Luke Davis took over from Libby at the pavilion end and he took out the middle order of Eccleston, Rodda and Carvelly who made only nine runs between them.
The lower order fell to the offspin of Matt Robins, who finished with three for 10 from 7.4 overs, the last four batsmen going for ducks.
Bowling honours however went to Luke Davis with his three for nine from seven overs as Falmouth were skittled out for a paltry 64 in less than 35 overs, which meant that Callington had 75 overs to chase their modest target of 65 to win.
With games in other parts of the County under threat from the weather, Callington's slim title ambitions meant that they needed 20 points from this game, and to achieve that they could not afford to lose a wicket.
Shorten opened up with Danny Lee and Jake Libby, who cautiously went about their business, helped by some extras courtesy of the Falmouth bowlers.
With the skies darkening and rain coming in from the west, Lee decided to put bat to ball and hit spinner Greg Stephens for three consecutive boundaries, followed by a quick two to give Callington victory in the 15th over. Left-hander Lee was unbeaten on 38 and his partner Libby on 12.
