All due respect to Councillor Jeanne Rees who took up space in your columns in answer to an unnamed correspondent reference council procedures on Council Tax but failed to address a letter by Anthony Cory which appeared on the same page.
If the councillor had, we would have had a very interesting letter but then perhaps there is no reply the good councillor can give.
Councillor, there is no shame in being unable to pay these exorbitant council taxes, the taxpayer is being used as an open purse.
Surely the shame lies with the social services who overspent by £1.2 million. This reeks of bad management with the taxpayer left to pick up the tab. Any organisation has an estimate on the coming year's expenditure.
To overspend by such a large amount is showing complete disregard to where the money comes from.
Surely the Cornwall Council should go back to the Government for this money, after all, only a couple of weeks ago Tony Blair promised that Cornwall would not be forgotten.
To close I repeat what I said in the beginning: there is no shame in being unable to pay these taxes, you do not know people's circumstances.
Myself, my spine is worn out after 44 years of hard work, and I will have difficulty in paying.
Shame? What planet are you living on?
Just look in the newspapers for shame. It is unlimited. Politicians etc just glorify in shame. Leave the working people alone.
