AN end of an era will be marked at the slipway alongside Looe's new RNLI station tomorrow when the last boat designed by the late naval architect Alan Pape will be launched into the river. And the Mahogany 23ft speedboat is also likely to be the final boat ever to be built at his 'Backstreets' workshop by Clifford Adams, the noted Looe boatbuilder who is now in his 80s. Mr Pape died in October, 2004, shortly after he had completed the design work on the boat in collaboration with his life-long sailing friend, Mr Adams, but before building the vessel was far advanced. The boat will be owned by Mr Adams' daughter Sara and her husband Simon Kellerway. Tomorrow's 2pm ceremony, though, will be tinged with sadness for Mr Adams whose wife, Muriel, died at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice, St Austell, two weeks ago.
