In the Cornish Times newsroom we’ve produced three editions of your favourite local paper packed with news and pictures: the main edition, and the recently launched Saltash and Bodmin editions.
The main and Saltash editions lead with the fact that students and staff at Cornwall College Saltash have been left reeling this week following the shock news that their college is to close after 35 years of existence.
The Saltash edition also has a report on the final curtain call of Burraton Community Players, a theatre group which has announced that it will be exiting stage left after 30 years of performances, while the main edition reveals that a plan for a pontoon at a beauty spot on a local river has been refused.
The Bodmin edition leads with the story that the owner of a problem pub in the town, that was shut down by magistrates after complaints to police about anti-social behaviour, has surrendered his licence. The Bodmin edition also has praise for a local PCSO who is moving on after 13 years, and report that plans have been submitted for three ‘high quality’ dwellings on land at the rear of Barclays Bank in Bodmin.
Appearing in all editions is our 999 emergency services section, where we report that police have discovered cannabis and cannabis plants with a street value of potentially £8,000 at a property, and that a man in his 70s was found dead in his car in Callington.
In other news, we report on a new ‘Man Down’ support group starting up in Liskeard for men aged over 18 with mental health concerns, and that plans for a community pub in the town are moving forward – the Barley Sheaf is the hoped-for venue.
We also report on plans to expand and rejuvenate the facilities at the St Mellion International Resort, and in a special feature the Harbour Hotel in Fowey tells our readers about what its special deal for Cornish residents.
Meanwhile, we also report on the efforts of Duchy College Stoke Climsland staff and students to boost a local foodbank and soup run, and preview the college’s forthcoming open day for prospective students.
We have a special history feature from the author of a new book set against the background to the English Civil War Battle of Braddock Down, which took place 377 years ago this Sunday close to Liskeard.
In addition, there are pictures and previews from more of the panto productions in the area, plus, as ever, we also have lots of your community news and pictures and regular columns such as Ray Roberts’ Nature Watch, your Letters, TV Choice and the latest books.
There are also Farming & Equestrian, Property and Motoring pages and 11 packed pages of Sport. Find all of this and more in this week’s Cornish Times editions, in shops from today (Friday).
